Boston City Council Vote Passes the Jim Brooks Stabilization Act! October 4th

Congratulations to all the organizers and renters who have worked so long for two years to pass a City Council ordinance to prevent unfair evictions due to exorbitant rent increases.   Yesterday, residents turned out to the Boston City Council to watch the vote.  The Council passed Jim Brooks Stabilization Act!

Next steps will be advocating with State Legislators to pass enabling legislation at the State House.

The Jim Brooks Stabilization Act will 1) Enable the City of Boston to track evictions — not currently happening, 2) Inform tenants facing eviction of their rights and resources, and 3) Help residents in foreclosure stay in their homes.
The vote comes after two years of rallies, protests, workshops and petition gathering,
