The station provides easy access to the shops, services and cultural amenities in the Logan Square Business District in Hyde Park, and has the highest ridership boardings on the line. The station is adjacent to the Neponset River Greenway, which is slated for major investments by the State to increase recreation, walking and bicycling along the River. The Station area currently has mixed light industrial, commercial and residential uses, but current updated rezoning creates an opportunity for more new transit-oriented-development.
Residences at Fairmount Station. Southwest Boston CDC, in partnership with Traggorth Companies, is currently developing the first affordable family housing in Hyde Park in over 20 years. The Residences at Fairmount Station will play a role in continuing to revitalize Hyde Park’s downtown commercial district. The 27-unit property to be completed in 2018 will be 100% affordable and will provide LEED Silver Certified homes for families. It will be located within steps of the Fairmount Station, providing direct transit access.
Doyle Playground. This playground was dismantled approximately 15 years ago and is now a vacant lot that abuts the Neponset River, located in the heart of a neighborhood dense with families. The site is owned by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Southwest Boston CDC is organizing residents to identify how they would like the site to be redeveloped and is communicating with DCR to ensure plans for improvement are included in DCR’s near term work plan.
