Morton Street StationĀ

The Morton Street station was opened in 1979, but had suffered from unsightly abutting commercial uses and a below grade location. The MBTA completed Fix It First renovations in 2007 include: improved signage and lighting, pedestrian friendly walkways, steel canopies and electronic message boards, benches and landscaping.

The garden was completed and opened in 2014 on a former vacant City lot including individual growing plots plus a community gathering space to foster community building and intergenerational activities. The organizing and implementation of the project has been a healing process for residents who had suffered from a traumatic multiple shooting several years earlier. Mattapan Food and Fitness and Boston Natural Areas /Trustees of Reservations were the co-sponsors.
